Overview
Madurai is one of India’s oldest cities. Built in the shape of a lotus, it was ruled for the longest period of time in its history by Pandya monarchs. Tamil Nadu’s cultural center is regarded as Madurai. The region will be able to impart to the next generation its rich mythological past and rich cultural legacy. The Meenakshi Temple, which honors the goddess Meenakshi and has a shrine for her consort, Sundareshwarar, is the main draw for tourists to the city. One of the significant ancient temples devoted to Lord Muruga (Karthikeya) is Thiruparankundram, which is situated on a hillock about 8 kilometers from the city. Gandhi’s bloodstained dhoti and a few other artifacts are kept in the Gandhi Museum.
